Our Philosophy

At Fences For Fido, we’ve learned something important: Behind every dog on a chain is someone doing their best with what they have.

Chaining is rarely a first choice. It’s a last resort—one rooted in lack of access, not lack of love. When families are met with compassion instead of judgment, they choose better for their dogs every single time. Our work is about dignity. About trust. About keeping families together.

Our Volunteer Community

Fences For Fido was built by volunteers. From the very beginning, it has been people showing up, with tools, compassion, and a willingness to help, who made it possible for dogs to live safer lives with the families who love them. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, but they share a common belief: every dog deserves safety, dignity, and the chance to remain with their family.

How We Show Up

At Fences For Fido, we try to bring the same compassion to people that we bring to the dogs we serve. That means we strive to:

Lead with kindness

We treat one another with respect and appreciation, knowing every volunteer contributes something meaningful.

Serve without judgement

Many of the families we work with love their dogs deeply but face barriers to resources. Our role is to offer support and solutions, never criticism.

Protect privacy and trust

We respect the dignity and privacy of the families who invite us into their yards and their lives.

Work together

Our builds and outreach efforts are team efforts guided by experienced Crew Leaders and Client Outreach Coordinators who help ensure every project runs safely and smoothly.

Represent the mission with care

Whether in person or online, we strive to reflect the compassion and professionalism that define Fences For Fido.

A Community Built on Compassion

Sometimes our volunteers meet dogs in difficult situations. It can be emotional work. But we’ve learned something powerful over the years: change often begins with relationship and trust. By showing up with empathy and practical help—a fence, a dog house, food support, or veterinary care—we help families create safer, healthier lives for the animals they love.

Thank You for Being Here

Volunteering with Fences For Fido means becoming part of something bigger than a single project. It means joining a community that believes small acts of compassion can transform lives—for dogs and the people who love them. And we are deeply grateful for every person who chooses to be part of that work.

FAQs

Sometimes you will see dogs in difficult situations. That can stir up strong feelings.

Please remember: chaining is rarely a lack of love. It is usually a lack of access.

When we show up with compassion instead of judgment, families choose better for their dogs every single time.

The fence build is not the end of our involvement; it’s the beginning of a relationship. The way we show up on that first day sets the tone for everything that follows.

We love welcoming community groups.

Because fence builds are active construction sites that must be completed in one morning, we limit build groups to six people or fewer so experienced volunteers can safely guide the project.

If your group is larger, we may have other meaningful opportunities, such as doghouse builds, food sorting days, or clinic support, where everyone can participate fully.

We’re grateful for your willingness to serve.

This work changes lives, including ours.
We would be honored to have you alongside us.
